Strange there are two of us here that both have original iPhones that have been unlocked and then updated through iTunes 8.2 to OS 3.0 and it isn’t working for either of us.
Btw, BigBoss isn’t a member of the devteam. He is just someone who likes helping people. He said it before, so be careful as to not misinterpret what he says.
yeah, the bigboss on the blog is not the real BigBoss who runs the repo. just an fyi,my locate me on 3.0 on an officially activated 3g isn’t working either.
Is there any way to install just the icon from a carrier bundle?

Ryan(02:16:43) :
I thought I’d chime in. I have a 2G originally hacktivated with pwnagetool on 2.2.1. I recently updated to 3.0 with iTunes. I get the same popup regarding push. However location is working fine. Has anyone tried the just-released 3.0 jailbreak to see if that fixes the issue?
2g iphone, tmobile usa updated to 3.0 using itunes and unlocked using redsn0w. Location feature works fine, push not working. No popup but just dont work.
I think the problem with the iPhone getting warm and draining so fast is that it tries to connect to the push notification servers of Apple over and over again and probably the servers deny the connection because it’s not a locked phone or something. I’m thinking here
I don’t know what it means, but it’s related with push notification. In fact apsd stand for Apple Push Service Daemon. I think this is why push notification doesn’t work on 2g
This problem is not about being a 2G phone! It should occur on all phones without proper activation.
This problem should occur with all non-officially activated iPhones.
Apple Push Notification deamon (apsd) checks for valid activation records on the phone, ie. if you haven’t activated your iPhone through iTunes and your carrier, Push Notifications will NOT work.
Yes, YouTube was checking for valid activation records.
I guess the dummy activation records included in a hacktivated iPhone allows YouTube to work, but are not accepted by the Apple’s servers in the case of APSN.
Remember that Push Notification requires connection with Apple, and they may validate the certificate authorities against their servers whenever they want!

Lets keep the awareness up on this! We deserve push, and I think with enough luck, we can ever figure out a way to get MMS working natively (without that swirly crap)
Found this page after googling my problem. I’m the same as most other people I think.
The only strange thing is that mobileme find my iphone works perfectly when I send a message to the iphone and supposedly that works on apples push servers??
Otherwise, I’ve done a variety of upgrading a previously pwned phone (getting the error in the screenshot above), using pwnage tool (getting no error) and doing all kinds of restores and still no push (although no errors anymore).
It’s the one feature I’ve been really waiting for so fingers crossed!!
Glad I found your blog, been going crazy for two days trying to find an app that will push a notification. Hopefully they can fix it soon, and maybe even activate MMS while they are at it.
Is anyone else having push enabled apps crash on launch after a long hang? I’ve been working on this issue, and like others I no longer have the connect to itunes popup, but apps that have push crash at launch (apparently during initial apns sign in sequence.). The crash is so hard, it even causes SpringBoard to crash. Anyway feedback would be great as I am trying to resolve this issue.
PUSH is still not working even after using Redsn0w without using the Unlock option on an AT&T account. I do remember pluging my Iphone and it said your phone is now activated via Itunes 8.2! so i hope this will be solved in quickpwn
It’s good to know they are looking into this. Still, I wonder what Push issues they experienced right before Pwnage dropped (I remember seeing it either on Twitter or the board).
Also, any confirmation of this on 3G as well as 2G??
Differences being that
1.the push notification is handled by Apple, while YouTube is handled by google.
2. the youtube activation can be a “one activation -> millions of handsets”, while the push notification has to be a one to one.
23062009
Mike(12:43:26) :
Can you explain what that means? Why would there be 1:many activations for YouTube??

Ali Lars(14:34:41) :
Glad i found this blog. LOL i kept asking everyone about it i have 2g unlocked/jailbroken with redsn0w youtube is working except the most important thing the push notifications. GO DEV THEAM GO GO GO!!
can’t wait for their news to tell us about this bug updates!
hi guys this is really sad. I hope they fix it, beejive and aim just released their new versions with push notifications and that was the main reason I upgraded to 3.0. I just want them to tell if that can be fixed, otherwise my unlocked iphone 2g wouldn’t be as nice as it can.
The Apple Push Servers are refusing to play with our phones cos they were force activated (Not Jedi).
Gonna go get me a O2 SpeakEasy Sim Card (Pay as you go) and see if I can activate the phone with the unlock in place, then switch to my non-official SIM.
Hi. I discover that push Yahoo Mail notifications works ok in iPhone 2g EDGE (with edge active) If edge is power off with sbsettings or similar, yahoo mail push no works… but App Notifications still not working.
i dont think they may be able to fix it. i think the issue is going to be that the iphone is not properly activated through itunes thus apple cant send notificications to the device, this is becuase hacktivated through itunes indtead through pwnage tool or redsnow. so sad.. i do actually hope they do find a solution! i need my push!
So I have a 2G iphone here, 3.0 jailbroken and unlocked using pwnage tool… I’m sincerely hoping I don’t have to re-download all these apps again, I just spent all day yesterday doing it.
Something to note though, I unlocked my phone “in case I decied to sell it soon”… I have AT&T though, I just didn’t upgrade/activate it like I should have I guess, could that be making a difference?
I’m still not getting it though, I just did that. restored stock 3.0 firmware, – rejailbroke it using pwnage tool, chose NOT to activate it w/ pwnage tool, got the “connect to itunes” message, still no push =(
and by “connect to itunes” i mean the message right after you intall firmware, the one w/ the iTunes logo and USB on it. i plugged in and then it activated.
23062009
sstarr07(22:41:34) :
I don’t get the “connect to itunes to enable push,” however I do not get any notifications. I’ve been tryng to use QuickPiegon but no luck with any notifications. My notifications are turned ON in settings yet still no luck.
Well I just restored and rejailbroke to test this…
I restored to stock 3.0 firmware, used pwnage tool, did NOT activate it or unlock it, i got the “connect to itunes” and the “phone is activated” message on my iphone itself, and there STILL seems to be no push… =(
Not working for me as well. I have iPhone 2G. Curiously, I have a friend who has fully activated and AT&T subscribed/paid plan for iPhone 2G (not jailbroken or unlocked) but even on his phone, push notifications are not working. I wonder if this problem is limited to hacktivated phones only or if this relates to something amiss at Apple’s side.
please dev team!! this is the one feature i was craaaazy excited about, and it doesnt work . i dont get that message to connect to itunes to get push. push seems like it should work and shows up in settings, i just never receive any notifications. tried multiple apps, no luck.
Here is an answer to my question:
——————————————————–
How long until push notifications fix? Its not working at all on jailbroken devices.
——————————————————–
That is NOT right! my iphone 3G is jailbroken with 3.0 firmware and unlocked with Ultrasn0w and push notification is working and tested with BeejiveIM 3.0 with push.
Thanks
——————————————————–
Looks like its only 2G issue
If there is anybody with 3G having the same issue like us, please confirm.
It will be working presumingly tomorrow the 26th. Tomorrow (friday) I hear that quickpwn 3.0 should come out and according to bigboss(which he clearly states on the top of this page) it will be fixed there. So yes it can be fixed so guys calm down and read the article.
There will be NO push notification fix! Because it the whole thing is in Apples hands!
The Apple servers check a unique certificate and key that you get when you activate in there database. So the only fix for this activating the phone.
Or if someone crackes the server or gets the Apple private key. But even then they can easily repair that because they own the servers.
My explanation is correct you have to be in their database. The method you say is for phones that where activated before so they are still listed in the database.

This does not make sense. I have a 2g on AT&T. But it’s hacktivated so I can use an unodficial data plan. It’s not working. Not even of wifi. Shouldn’t work on wifi at least?
I repaired the problem by using an official unactivated SIM (with no contract on it and a restored phone without restoring the backup). It passed the first activation (i could use the phone as an iPod touch) but it then “said waiting for activation this may take several minutes” and then i redsnowed it et voilà push is working on my 2G iPhone
PS:Is it me or comment order is all wrong on this page?
So Neckaros you really got it to work with a 2G ?
Thats big news!
are you sure push is really working? i. e. did you recieve a push message?
please elaborate!

Indeed. I don’t know what wordpress did with the comments. I’ll post your semi-solution on the blog tomorrow afte testing it out myself.
So any new updates…..the most recent news is that it will work with qckpwn???
So was that before? I’m kinda confused about the most recent update. Thanks, cool blog, from one student to another!!!!
Same issue on my iPhone 2G in Germany. I tried different things. One last thing I’m going to try:
What if I do a restore with the stock iPhone 1,1_3.0 firmware. Activate it with a valid SIM (my case german T-Mobile). So the certificate for push notification would get installed.
Unlock the iPhone through redsn0w would hopefully not replace the entire firmware and therefore keep the installed certificate for push notification on it.
As far as I know redsn0w does only do changes on the phone while pwnage replaces the firmware, right?
Did anyone tried that?
Ok, done it. I can proove, its working this way. So its possible then to use app push notifications on 2G using redsn0w and temporary valid sim card for activting.

Quash(15:35:22) :
Did teleharry just say that he activated his 2g iphone and has it unlocked for use on a different carrier and has push notification working?
Yes, thats right. That phone was bought originally in Germany with a T-Mobile contract.
Did you try activating (not hactivating) first with your AT&T card? If it doesn’t just try then with the T-Mobile xtra card. Nothing to loose.
Once it gets activated yoo won, and can do redsn0wing in order to unlock it and use any SIM.

I’ve tried that tutorial you’re referring to, but I had to enter my iTunes login and password to activate and I was a bit afraid as that also contains my mastercard information.
Was this the case for you too?
Could you just continue without activating a mobile plan?
Thanks. If I can get this to work, I’ll post screenshots on the blog.
I can confirm that restoring my Iphone 2G then putting in a used but cancelled AT&T sim card and installing AIM let me then accept Push over WiFi. I then with iPhone still on and connected to iTunes took out the AT&T sim and put in T-Mobile and then used redsn0w to jailbreak (already was unlocked due to previous jailbreak). I can now confirm that Push notifications work over the T-Mobile network.
I had it where I had push email after a restore then ran redsn0w to unlock. Swapped SIMs and now my push is gone. Never got to try AIM push or anything. Guess I shall wait. Seems like since they are delaying ultrasn0w for the 3GS, push is their next project…Can only hope
Hello,
I have the iPhone 2G and the PNS works on my iPhone after unlocking via redsn0w.
Here some informations.
The iPhone is an original one locked for T-Mobile in Germany.
I restored it to iPhone OS 3.0 and afterwards I activated the iPhone with a prepaid Sim from T-Mobile Germany. After activation I unlocked/activted and installed cydia with redsn0w and the PNS is still working. Now I can receive push notifications with my o2 Germany Sim Card.
So I understand that this is the same way how you can PNS for iPhone 3G.
I have 2G push working using an inactive AT&T sim card. I’m on ‘Taiwan Mobile’ and it’s working via wifi and through cell network. The phone is an old 2G that i brought over from the Stats. I had to try 3 times before I got everything to work and stay working. Push was working until I restored as an exisiting iPhone… Then Beejive, IM+, AIM among a few other would crash when i started up. HOW I GOT IT TO WORK: I set it up as a new phone ( rather than doing a restore )
My steps were:
1) insert old inactive AT&T sim card
2) restore with 3.0 in iTunes
3) after restore, i let iTunes detect the iphone again, and it will say that it’s waiting for activation. I ’slide to unlock’ to cancel the message and get into the iphone’s icon screen.
4) next ran Redsnow
Now it’s all working fine… except Beejive’s network still seems unstable and disconnects a lot. Push works great, however.
(another note… my friend says that he got his 2G working with push using Redsnow and TW Mobile’s sim card… his problem that he has to turn off push or he won’t receive incoming calls)
“3) after restore, i let iTunes detect the iphone again, and it will say that it’s waiting for activation. I ’slide to unlock’ to cancel the message and get into the iphone’s icon screen.”
How did you manage to get to the waiting for activation screen? I did exactly like you said many times, and I only get the slide for emergency screen all the time after the restore. It seems impossible to get to the homescreen without redsnowing first. and this doesn’t help, notifications not working after redsnow. I have a 2g iPhone
I waited for itunes to detect the phone (took a couple minutes). Then the “slide for emergency” turn to “slide to unlock”, with a popup notice that said that it was waiting for activation, and that it could take a while.
…after that, I was able to redsnow it.

jonas(20:44:59) :
Tried that, with the original at&t unactivated sim brought with the phone (im in sweden).
No matter how long i waited i couldn’t get into the phone after restoring, just make emergency calls. The only way to get further was to go trough the at&t window in itunes, with plans, billing options and all that scary stuff.
So i’m back at square one, minus all my apps and data i had :/
Andy, will this work if i use any at&t sim card…
I’ve bought 2g iphone from a friend of mine…is it possible to activate push by using any at&t sim card?
Ive tried to activate my 2g iphone here in Tmobile USA, using my dad’s AT&T sim. I get an error every time. I connect to iTunes after restoring, but never get a chance to activate the phone. I can redsnow the phone and afterwards, push doesnt work. Tried several times yesterday.
legit att, but unlocked and hacktivated, test sim is from another country and doesnt work here , but iphone doesn’t complain about the different sim and push is delivered through wifi….
Update to 3.0 (Baseband isn’t updated so its still unlocked)
Redsnow to Jailbreak (dont unlock!)
Activate with legit sim and confirm push is working (play for a while with it)
ran redsnow again, but only checking “unlock”
>if your phone is already hacktivated, deactivate it by deleting the files in
var\root\Library\Lockdown
var\Keychains
reactivate using legit sim and use redsnow again afterwards
I have a 2g IPhone purchased from United States. But using it in India. I do not have an AT&T sim. Can anyone courier it to me in India. I will pay for the shipment.
Thanks, but we’ll need the cert.zip file. On the blog the two provided links are the same file that includes at least only nimble, inject and the readme…
We need the below files received from an active sim to inject
Can someone post them pls!!!! thx!!
- youtube-cert.bin
- youtube-key.bin
- push-cert.bin
- push-key.bin
NOTE: my push wasn’t working right away and i was ready to strap some fireworks to my iphone. then i went into mail, contacts, etc and remembered that i had push disabled in there. apparently once i re-enabled it in mail, contacts, etc the new push notification were streaming like motha!!
Reading everywere that people are getting other peoples push notifications. Is this because we are all using the same certificates? Haven’t experienced it myself, but it would be really crappy if this is the case.. I think only people who were using IM apps have experienced these bugs but I’m not sure. I only use HeyWAY through push.. Who has more information on this?
read about the tools yesterday on devteams twitter, tested it with the files providet by bram today, it works without problem on my 2g, but I am very curious if other people are getting the same notifications as I am. I have not recieved any notifications that i should not.
HAPPENING TO ME! happened with beejive and now happening over and over with this guy “banditin” testing push on his phone. now i wonder if many of the notifications i never got were received by someone else… i dont see a way out, i used the credentials provided by mojo in his idisk.
I Tried those steps.
I am using a Bouygues French Sim card on my 2G, but couldn’t get it to work using the certs from the zip.
Everything behaved exactly as it should except no push, Youtube was working already.
Alright this is very weird!! I’m getting pushes from people i don’t know on beejive i even signed out and still got messages from strangers. Also i reinstalled the apps that support push and they didn’t work….What’s the deal people?!
Even I am getting push notifications of other people. There seems to be something wrong with this procedure or is it with IM+ that I am using. Surprisingly when I remove IM+ and use push notification with AIM, I do not receive push notification from others. It works fine.
Maybe its on the IM+ side. I got one message from IM+ that wasn’t supposed to come to me. I’m guessing if the certificate from the files above isn’t unique and is registering multiple devices, then I’d see a whole lot more messages.
I’ve only gotten a few messages not intended for me, but they have all come from AIM (free).
I’m awaiting reports of the cause of this error… I know people with legit activation that I could get the files from, but I’m thinking its far better to have strangers read my IMs than people I know

Dan(21:49:20) :
This got push working but as a result my battery runs flat in less than 4 hours. Something still isn’t right…
New day, new tweak in Cydia: Push Fix. I was just about to write a tutorial on how to manually enable push notifications on iPhone 2G and 3G, when the guys at iPhoneil.net decided to create a package and host it on their cydia repository.
I am glad they did that, because the manual process is not that hard but it requires a little bit of your time, this is much easier for you guys, and let’s face it, its much easier for me to let you know about this. So, im happy
First thing you need to do is to turn OFF Push Notifications from Settings.app .
Than load cydia, go to manage> sources> add source: http://cydia.iphoneil.net. Once the source was added, go to search ( or changes ) and look for Push Fix and install it.
Reboot your iPhone , and make sure YouTube.app works. If it doesent work reinstall the patch.
Same problem here ! I am getting push notifications of people i dont know on IM+. There is something wrong with this procedure, the key certificates are now shared by everyone. The Dev Team know about this?
I believe this problem is App-specific. I’m using three push notifications on hacktivated 2G iphone (used the fix everyone else is using).
1. Beejive IM: Push don’t really work. sometimes they do, but more often than not, they don’t. It’s a known issue (aknowledged in their forum)
2. TextFree Lite: Push notifications work no problem.
3. SportsTap: following a couple MLB teams…push notifications working perfectly at this exact moment: I’m getting scores even before google (try a google search for the team’s name).
So Beejive is really not working, but I haven’t received notifications not intended for me either!
Do yourselves a favor and borrow or buy an At&t Sim card and use that to get Notifications working… This way your not sharing anyone elses code and you won’t get false notifications.
Guys, I think I have solved the issue on why the dev teams push fix does not work all the time! Please give me a minute to post my findings…I have been playing around with it and so far I have received 100% of my pushes within a sec or two after sending them.
Hey Bram, please let me know if you had a chance to test out my temporary fix solution and if it worked for you also as it has for me. I have been receiving my pushes for two days straight now and have not had any issues. Guys, I will post my “solution” soon, just waiting for Bram and the dev team to get back to me to work out a few kinks first. From what I found there seems to be a “timeout” issue with the dev teams fix and our jailbroken Iphones which causes a conflict with constantly receiving our push IM’s. Hopefully I will get some feedback soon from Bram or the dev team soon
13072009
Zeal(11:24:33) :
I don’t think it is related to timeout or conflict. Apple creates a unique certificate for each device during activation. Each application that uses push functionality signs its id with this certificate and sends it to apple to keep push channel active for that devices. So if at the same time there are two people using same certificate for same push app, apple will have two ids to push for each msg for that application. Hence all problems. A simple test that you can try yourself to verify this.
1. If you have a legit sim, activate it using that sim and use the certificate generated by it. Of course you will have to use nimble command from dev team fix to get the keys.
I have a friend that uses Iphone 3G only for voice and is not going to use push notification. I copied keys from his phone and used it with my Hactivated 2g iPhone. I get all my push notifications instantly.
You can use keys from any Iphone. Not necessary that 3G will work with only 3G.
@Zeal: Any other time I would of agreed with your statment. However,as I informed Bram, what I did this past friday was download backgrounder 3.0, then I turned off my push notifications, waited a few seconds, then turned my notifications back on, ran about 3 or four test pushes with my phone making sure I received all of them. Then I went back into settings, and enabled backgrounder. Now, i get all my pushes all the time, even with my phone in sleep mode! I also stopped getting pushes from other people. Now, I use the same certs as everyone else have been using….So either I am extremely lucky, or the issue does have somehting to do with the push notification app “timing out’ in sleep mode with 2g jailbroken iphones. This would explain why i keep gettin apps with backgrounder enabled in settings as it keeps setting and push notifications running in the background. Can people try this out and see if it works for you all also and prove that i am not just lucky?? i really hope this works for everyone as it has me!!
Ok, thanks for posting this here MRCANNADY! I’m eager to try your fix as if only to see if it works. I’m a little lost actually…
1. Download Backgrounder
2. Turn Off Push Not.
3. Wait a few Seconds
4. Turn Notifications Back on
5. Run Test Pushes
6. Enable Backgrounder (??? wasn’t it enabled already?)
7. ????
I will make a test as soon as I’m sure the procedure is the right one, don’t want to post wrong results!

Ola(13:56:47) :
Hmm, can i copy keys from ipod touch? It`s the same software anyway, should be working
@Juan Serrano: sorry for the confusion. when you download backgrounder 3.0 it is not enabled, you have to go to any app that you want to leave running (like settings for example) and hold down the home key on the iphone. Keep holding it until you see a popup that says “background enabled” then release. before you enable backgrounder though…make sure you turn off all push notification apps in settings, wait a while then turn them back on. send yourself a few test push to make sure its working..then go back into settings and enable backgrounder. if this does not work, go back to settings, hold doen the home key until you see “backgrounder disabled” and try the steps again. Again, this is something that i was just playing around with and tried, but all my pushes have been working non-stop since friday at all coming through instantly and i have not received anyone elses pushes!! The only problem is when you restart your phone, backgrounder will then stop working, so you will have to repeat the above process again…I really hope this works for you guys, please let me know!! i really believ that the push notification apps ‘falls asleep’ after a while on jailbroken iphones and this is why it works sometimes and then stops 9especially when the phone is put to sleep) With backgrounder enalbed in settings, it keeps the everything in settings active, even when the phoe is in sleep mode.
It would be nice to gte in touch with the dev team and let them know how I have push working great on my JB iphoe (1st gen) I do believ that I may be onto somethinghere, but i cant reach them….I dont think that its just pure luck that after I enabled backgrounder 3.0 in my settings, that I am now receiing every single push..i even had a friends send me pushes, and they all popped up at the same time!

I have done the installation mentioned in update 8 and it went smoothly but…….the push notifications are not working properly. I have received some but maybe 1 out of 100. I have installed IM+, gpush and Prowl. They don’t work. Interestingly, today I received a push notification which was not meant for my iPhone. Somebody else was testing his gpush app. I have a 2g iphone which is unlocked and jailbroken.
Any suggestions what I can try to fix the push notification?
I installed the Cydia´s Push Fix on my 2G, guess what! its work perfect for IM, Palringo, Fring, ETC…. with one little exception : NO INCOMING CALLS!!
I have to uninstalled to get back my incoming phone calls….
Please fix it!!!
ahhhhh also, my youtube now its not working…
Yeah I am sure we and several others are trying to contact the dev team but they have no official channel to submit bugs. I went over the to IRC chat and you pretty much will be banned for PMing the board ops, that means its impossible to contact the dev team directly.
By now I am sure they know of the problem, I just wish they would update their blog to acknowledge this. I don’t expect an ETA or anything for a bug fix. They work in the jailbreak in their free time and the kindness of their hearts and that’s pretty nice of them.
Cant be fixed with jailbreak?
I hope they can!!
How can you tell when the Jailbreak hasn’t even been released yet?
I don’t know. But it isn’t working right now. I hope they’ll fix it with a jailbreak.
The “Locate me” function in Maps also isn’t working on 2G hacktivated iPhone…thought you guys might want to know…
The Locate Me function is working on my iPhone.
on mine too!
I know. But he knows more than we do and he has close contacts with them, so I kinda trust him, but yeah you’re right: we’re not sure…
you do know that the supposed BigBoss on the dev-teams blog is a fake right?
22 hours ago @ blog.iphone-dev.org
hoo and you are not Philihp J. Fry …. its only mi nick name… DUH
In that case we’ll just have to wait and see…
yeah, the bigboss on the blog is not the real BigBoss who runs the repo. just an fyi,my locate me on 3.0 on an officially activated 3g isn’t working either.
what was the name of the carrier icon you are using? that looks awesome. I’m just using the tmobile one with the pink T logo next to the word tmobile.
It’s the carrier bundle of my carrier: Mobile Vikings. I guess you won’t be able to install that
Bram
Is there any way to install just the icon from a carrier bundle?
I thought I’d chime in. I have a 2G originally hacktivated with pwnagetool on 2.2.1. I recently updated to 3.0 with iTunes. I get the same popup regarding push. However location is working fine. Has anyone tried the just-released 3.0 jailbreak to see if that fixes the issue?
i am having the same problem with push notification doesn’t work (on tmobile network). Please let me know if you find a work around.
Still no fix found :/
Popup is gone for me too after using the pwnagetool and loading the ipsw with itunes. I havnt tried to see if the push actually works however.
2g iphone, tmobile usa updated to 3.0 using itunes and unlocked using redsn0w. Location feature works fine, push not working. No popup but just dont work.
Jep. Exactly the same here.
Bram
Same here
This is not the real BigBoss. He has no golden bar! Be aware of fake users!!
Have the same problems!!! Not happy about it. I’ve used RedSnow
I think the problem with the iPhone getting warm and draining so fast is that it tries to connect to the push notification servers of Apple over and over again and probably the servers deny the connection because it’s not a locked phone or something. I’m thinking here
I’ve turned it off now, because my battery was draining too. We can only hope the DevTeam is workin on it.
Bram
I hope so too … I think after UltraSnow people with unlocked iPhone 3G’s will also have the same problem
Same problem, i need it Now!!!
I’ve managed to get through to planetbeing
since they know about this glitch now I think it’s only a matter of a couple of days
Glad they know it already…
I’ve tried to watch the log of iphone if there are errors. I’ve used iphone configuration tool and I’ve found that:
unknown apsd[59] : : Stream error occurred for : TLS Error Code=-9831 “peer reported unknown certificate authority”
I don’t know what it means, but it’s related with push notification. In fact apsd stand for Apple Push Service Daemon. I think this is why push notification doesn’t work on 2g
Great! Maybe you can tell that to the devteam?
I have send them a message (twitter) but they don’t reply… Any other methods to tell them?
wordpress cut the error (read as html tag…)
I’ve sent this log to @planetbeing maybe the error codes can help him figuring out what the problem is.
Unfourtunately this is not the complete log: wordpress read some part as html tag… Search my tweets (arpesenti) that there is the complete error log…
Hi Guys,
Nl / BE here!
Have got the same issue, didn’t find a fix for it yet!
We’ll see that when Yellowsn0w is released. But I think you’re right and I hope they can get a fix for it. Wasn’t YouTube the same thing?
Yes, YouTube was checking for valid activation records.
I guess the dummy activation records included in a hacktivated iPhone allows YouTube to work, but are not accepted by the Apple’s servers in the case of APSN.
Remember that Push Notification requires connection with Apple, and they may validate the certificate authorities against their servers whenever they want!
Lets keep the awareness up on this! We deserve push, and I think with enough luck, we can ever figure out a way to get MMS working natively (without that swirly crap)
Im on a hacktivated (Redsnow) 2G iPhone and also can’t get push notifications. Lets hope they can sort this out!!!!!
Hi,
Found this page after googling my problem.
Did any of u try quick pigeon app? I’d does not even send out an email to test out the push service. Hope they’ll find a solution soon…
I’ve tried it. It sends the mail, but when the other recipient clicks ‘Yes’ then I’m not getting any notification of this.
looks like dev team is gonna look at the push bugs soon. saw this on twitter:
@MuscleNerd Are you aware that Push notifications are not working on classic iPhone 2G?Is it ever gonna get fixed or is it a hardware issue?
@Sgt_Denzil just learning that tonight actually, thanks we’ll look into that after ultrasn0w thingee
Yeah same problem:
unknown apsd[261] : : Stream error occurred for : TLS Error Code=-9831 “peer reported unknown certificate authority”
Hope it will be fixed soon
I think that push notifications travelling across apple servers, and our 2g iphone hacktivated are refused…
Yup, that’s probably it, but that was the same problem with YouTube and they’ve fixed that…
Differences being that
1.the push notification is handled by Apple, while YouTube is handled by google.
2. the youtube activation can be a “one activation -> millions of handsets”, while the push notification has to be a one to one.
Can you explain what that means? Why would there be 1:many activations for YouTube??
Glad i found this blog. LOL i kept asking everyone about it i have 2g unlocked/jailbroken with redsn0w youtube is working except the most important thing the push notifications. GO DEV THEAM GO GO GO!!
can’t wait for their news to tell us about this bug updates!
hi guys this is really sad. I hope they fix it, beejive and aim just released their new versions with push notifications and that was the main reason I upgraded to 3.0. I just want them to tell if that can be fixed, otherwise my unlocked iphone 2g wouldn’t be as nice as it can.
Ye i got the same problems. No Youtube and no Push on my 2G …. I hope they’ll find a fix soon !
Same problem with push notifications. It´s really depressing!
I hope Dev Team will find a quick solution…
It’s the damn forced activation.
I’m writting from Spain, and there is a problem with hours in wordpress, my local hour is different….
i dont think they may be able to fix it. i think the issue is going to be that the iphone is not properly activated through itunes thus apple cant send notificications to the device, this is becuase hacktivated through itunes indtead through pwnage tool or redsnow. so sad.. i do actually hope they do find a solution! i need my push!
That’s exactly the reason why you’re not receiving push. Unlock and activate via iTunes and you will receive push.
I don’t get the “connect to itunes to enable push,” however I do not get any notifications. I’ve been tryng to use QuickPiegon but no luck with any notifications. My notifications are turned ON in settings yet still no luck.
iPhone 3G fw. 3.0 (unofficial carrier)
PwnageTool 3.0
I have iPhone 2G and the original iPod Touch. Jailbroken iPhone 2G does not receive notifications, but Jailbroken iPod Touch does.
A temporarily fix:
http://thebigboss.org/2009/06/23/solution-to-jailbreaks-without-working-push-or-ultrasn0w-signal-dropping/
We need the 2G lockdownd file though =( can somebody up this?
this was just confirmed NOT working.
let us downgrade to 2.2.1
Well I just restored and rejailbroke to test this…
I restored to stock 3.0 firmware, used pwnage tool, did NOT activate it or unlock it, i got the “connect to itunes” and the “phone is activated” message on my iphone itself, and there STILL seems to be no push… =(
This is with AT&T obviouslsy.
Does anybody w/ a valid AT&T contract even have this working? I have a real AT&T contact, and push is still bonked for me.
please dev team!! this is the one feature i was craaaazy excited about, and it doesnt work
. i dont get that message to connect to itunes to get push. push seems like it should work and shows up in settings, i just never receive any notifications. tried multiple apps, no luck.
I GOT IT WORKING!!!
Here’s how I did it!
http://www.techjawa.com/2009/06/23/guide-jailbreak-iphone-2g-os-3-0-with-push-working/
Damn, AT&T only
. I haven’t found anything about T-Mobile getting Push to work on 2G yet
Any news?
I have the same problem. Keep us updated please
Thank you!
Thanks
Keep us updated please
I really hope they fix this, this is what 3.0 meant to me, its all about PUSH.
Hope the team works it out!
Any further updates today?
Nope. I just know that they’re working on it. But I guess they’re also working on 3GS JB+unlock…. We’ll have to wait.
It will be working presumingly tomorrow the 26th. Tomorrow (friday) I hear that quickpwn 3.0 should come out and according to bigboss(which he clearly states on the top of this page) it will be fixed there. So yes it can be fixed so guys calm down and read the article.
Any update on this ?
It would be really sad if the 2G would have to stay without push ;(
READ WHAT IT SAYS
It will be working in the new quickpwn! WHICH SHOULD BE OUT TOMORROW
READ WHAT IT SAYS
It will be working in the new quickpwn!
Where are you guys seeing that 2G push will be fixed in the next updat? On bigboss blog, it says”
No known push fix for the iPhone 2G
OMG…
Does it mean, the info about newest QuickPwn is false?
No push fix for 2G for now?
Man…
There will be NO push notification fix! Because it the whole thing is in Apples hands!
The Apple servers check a unique certificate and key that you get when you activate in there database. So the only fix for this activating the phone.
Or if someone crackes the server or gets the Apple private key. But even then they can easily repair that because they own the servers.
I hope I made something clear here.
Mitch – There is a fix for hactivated 3G phones – so your explanation holds no water.
http://www.beejive.com/support/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1761
My explanation is correct you have to be in their database. The method you say is for phones that where activated before so they are still listed in the database.
This does not make sense. I have a 2g on AT&T. But it’s hacktivated so I can use an unodficial data plan. It’s not working. Not even of wifi. Shouldn’t work on wifi at least?
But isnt “Quickpwn” now called “Redsnow” !??
damn this is such a let down…
I repaired the problem by using an official unactivated SIM (with no contract on it and a restored phone without restoring the backup). It passed the first activation (i could use the phone as an iPod touch) but it then “said waiting for activation this may take several minutes” and then i redsnowed it et voilà push is working on my 2G iPhone
PS:Is it me or comment order is all wrong on this page?
Indeed. I don’t know what wordpress did with the comments. I’ll post your semi-solution on the blog tomorrow afte testing it out myself.
As Bram point out i must make it clear that i use an official carrier SIM even if my account on it is no more active
Do you think a GoPhone SIM would work?
Wish I could edit my post – will this work for my unofficial carrier? I’m on T-Mobile USA.
But you did use your iPhone with a contract before and therefore officially activated it at some point right?
Did you choose the Unlock option in redsn0w?
So Neckaros you really got it to work with a 2G ?
Thats big news!
are you sure push is really working? i. e. did you recieve a push message?
please elaborate!
Thanks a lot!!!
sooo you have a jailbreak iphone 2g with push working?

So any new updates…..the most recent news is that it will work with qckpwn???
So was that before? I’m kinda confused about the most recent update. Thanks, cool blog, from one student to another!!!!
never mind….the order of comments is all out of whack, and found my answer…
, good luck with studies, I have an exam in few days!!!
soo if i have a 2g iphone and i do all again with a att sim card push will not work?
thanks for keeping us updated, I think I’ll just be following you and a next site to keep me informed. Much appreciated. I want push like NOW
planetbeing tweeted:
@anietoabout
Unfortunately, you guys are at the mercy of our attention spans. 3Gs is new and shiny, and push will have to wait.
We’ll DEFINITELY work on it though, because we put the community’s needs in high regard, but there are only so many hours in the day.

That should work.
Sent from my iPhone
Ok, done it. I can proove, its working this way. So its possible then to use app push notifications on 2G using redsn0w and temporary valid sim card for activting.
Did teleharry just say that he activated his 2g iphone and has it unlocked for use on a different carrier and has push notification working?
Yes, I can use any Sim and have push notification working on 2G.
Teleharry!
I assume you had a Tmobile Germany contract before with your 2g right?
Is your iPhone also from Germany or is it a US AT&T phone?
I have a US 2G iPhone with a AT&T card lying around somewhere.
Im am also in germany but I think using a Tmobile card wont get me anywhere…
Yes, thats right. That phone was bought originally in Germany with a T-Mobile contract.
Did you try activating (not hactivating) first with your AT&T card? If it doesn’t just try then with the T-Mobile xtra card. Nothing to loose.
Once it gets activated yoo won, and can do redsn0wing in order to unlock it and use any SIM.
Hopefully we will get a fix soon! I want my push AIM!
Thanks to this site I have working notification on my Tmobile Iphone 3g
I have an old ATT sim, restored, activated, jailbroke, ultrasnowed, and have sweet push notifications now..
Going to try it on my sons 2g next…
Any news on the 2G? Did it work?
Oh weehh, such a fix for the old iphone 2G would be really great. Acutally backgrounder for OS 3.0 helps out

3) it allowed me to enter the springboard and said awaiting activation so I dismissed it and went into settings and turned OFF the 3G signal.

So just so everyone knows, the at&t sim DOES NOT have to be current or activated!!! So if you have an old one laying around, put it to use!!

Have anyone tried this on yhe 2G? Did it work?
Thanks.
It is for the 3G, not the 2G…There is no work around and there won’t be till the dev-team figures something out
soooo? any news???
I can confirm that restoring my Iphone 2G then putting in a used but cancelled AT&T sim card and installing AIM let me then accept Push over WiFi. I then with iPhone still on and connected to iTunes took out the AT&T sim and put in T-Mobile and then used redsn0w to jailbreak (already was unlocked due to previous jailbreak). I can now confirm that Push notifications work over the T-Mobile network.
Did the AT&T card you used ever was active in an iPhone?
Have push notifications working on 2g and my 3g. Just use the instructions from Starblue and it works great
Starblue?
Sry, did not work for me :/
“3) after restore, i let iTunes detect the iphone again, and it will say that it’s waiting for activation.
I’m not sure. The sim card I used was the one that came in the iphone (unactivated).
I have 3 at&t sims lying around but i’m too lazy to restore back and then jailbreak again
got push on unlocked/hacktivated 2g working!
legit att, but unlocked and hacktivated, test sim is from another country and doesnt work here , but iphone doesn’t complain about the different sim and push is delivered through wifi….
I just posted your post on Hackint0sh, maybe you can swing by and explain it a bit better. I think I will try it out tonight we I get home from work.
im in the uk, just tried this it works, except i restored, activated with o2 sim, then used redsn0w to install cydia, icy and unlock.. all working!
lifesaver

I have a 2g IPhone purchased from United States. But using it in India. I do not have an AT&T sim. Can anyone courier it to me in India. I will pay for the shipment.
Even i am from india i will pay 50 dollars for the at&t sim apart from the shipment.
why dont you wait, u didnt have push this entire time, i dont see whats difficult waiting a few weeks for the dev-team to find a solution…
It really doesn’t seem like there is too much interest in it. More focus is on the 3GS and 3G iPhone and the upcoming 3.1 firmware.
yaayy! now i have Push on my iPhone 2G (Hacktivated). i describe what i do in my blog :
http://iphone.cazisoft.com/2009/push-notification-on-iphone-2g
Anyone got a damn fix for this stupid apple block?
Dev team published a fix for push. I have written a guide to do that: http://arpesenti.blogspot.com/2009/07/push-notification-on-hacktivade-iphone.html
Woho, worked! Can confirm that this works on my iphone 2G! Can’t belive

Bedankt voor de tip, ‘k ga nu kijken of het werkt!
Thx man!! Works like a charm!!
UPDATE 8 WORKS GREAT!!! very easy..
NOTE: my push wasn’t working right away and i was ready to strap some fireworks to my iphone. then i went into mail, contacts, etc and remembered that i had push disabled in there. apparently once i re-enabled it in mail, contacts, etc the new push notification were streaming like motha!!

Thank you so much. I was looking for the patched youtube/push files to inject them thanks again!!
AWESOME. I just did the inject and it’s 100% working!!
Great!!!! Now it’s working. Here’s a guide with screenshots and links for those on Windows:
http://www.redmondpie.com/guide-to-fix-push-notifications-on-hacktivated-iphone-3.0/
I Tried those steps.
I am using a Bouygues French Sim card on my 2G, but couldn’t get it to work using the certs from the zip.
Everything behaved exactly as it should except no push, Youtube was working already.
I have a 2g iphone running 3.0 with t-mobile. I tried the steps above and push is now working but only when my wifi is off… Strange and annoying.
I’m guessing if the certificate from the files above isn’t unique and is registering multiple devices, then I’d see a whole lot more messages.
it is DEFINITELY not only IM+
I’ve only gotten a few messages not intended for me, but they have all come from AIM (free).
I’m awaiting reports of the cause of this error… I know people with legit activation that I could get the files from, but I’m thinking its far better to have strangers read my IMs than people I know
This got push working but as a result my battery runs flat in less than 4 hours. Something still isn’t right…
CYDIA FIX NOW AVAILABLE
The following is copied from http://www.funkyspacemonkey.com/push-fix-tweak-enable-push-notifications-iphone-2g-3g
New fix, this time in Cydia.
http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=4431
anyone tried this fix ? Is it the same method ? U still go other peoples push notifications ?
the patch through Cydia is the same one, just made easier. It has all the same problems as the other fix.
Followed all steps to the letter on my 2G, still no push
@MRCANNADY
Did you actually solved it? if you did please share!!!!
Can people try this out and see if it works for you all also and prove that i am not just lucky?? i really hope this works for everyone as it has me!!
thank you
Ok, thanks for posting this here MRCANNADY! I’m eager to try your fix as if only to see if it works. I’m a little lost actually…
1. Download Backgrounder
2. Turn Off Push Not.
3. Wait a few Seconds
4. Turn Notifications Back on
5. Run Test Pushes
6. Enable Backgrounder (??? wasn’t it enabled already?)
7. ????
I will make a test as soon as I’m sure the procedure is the right one, don’t want to post wrong results!

I’ve posted my question here, its on this topic please help!!
http://iphone.kcandjohn.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2
I have done the installation mentioned in update 8 and it went smoothly but…….the push notifications are not working properly. I have received some but maybe 1 out of 100. I have installed IM+, gpush and Prowl. They don’t work. Interestingly, today I received a push notification which was not meant for my iPhone. Somebody else was testing his gpush app. I have a 2g iphone which is unlocked and jailbroken.
Any suggestions what I can try to fix the push notification?
Regards, Harm
The best solution right now costs about 575€, its a brand new 32gb iPhone 3Gs, officially unlock in belgium… I’m getting mine next week.
Great post, thansk for sharing!!
I don’t know
Bram
ok,thanks,I’ll try it once the jailbreak utilities are out for 3.0. so anywhere from 2 seconds from now to friday when ultrasn0w is out.
That’s what we all hope
Bram
Actually, I hope they will… ’cause the 2G user group is not big enough. If the 3G’s experience this too, then we are a big group
I really have no idea. I’ve tried to reach them via Twitter and the blog but I’ve had no succes whatsoever.
They work in the jailbreak in their free time and the kindness of their hearts and that’s pretty nice of them.
yeah , my 3g doesn’t work with NF either so we are big group now..
I couldn’t agree more.
You’re probay right. I down know the technics behind it, but I just want them to fix it
